This trip was a part of our Switzerland-Austria trip we took with our parents and our preschooler. We only traveled to the western part of Austria, one closer to Switzerland, which was incredibly beautiful. I highly recommend these places if you want to club Switzerland with it.
Innsbruck
Nestled in the majestic Alps, this charming mountain town is rich in nature, art, and history. It is the perfect destination for hikers during the summer and skiing enthusiasts during winter.
It is a beautiful experience walking in the evening along the streets, looking at the restaurants spread outdoors, the luxury retail stores, and the remarkable architecture.
The Golden Balcony is the most famous historical landmark located in the heart of the town.
Swarovski Crystal World is an attraction that is a paradise for crystal jewelry lovers particularly those who appreciate Swarovski, but it is also a great place to visit for experiencing beautiful art exhibits. They also have a store inside where articles can be purchased at some discount.
Salzburg
This Austrian city located on the border of Germany is well known for being the birthplace of Mozart, the great musician. Another thing it’s famous for is the movie ‘The Sound of Music’, a lifetime experience for the fans of this movie. It was like living the scenes from the movie, a truly unique experience!
Taking a walking tour of the old city is a fun way to explore the art and architecture of the town. The narrow street of Getreidegasse flanked by tiny shops and eateries on both sides takes you back to another era.
The bus tour takes you around the city, where you can see the birthplace of Mozart, a bright yellow facade building.
Mirabell palace and Mirabell gardens
This world heritage site is in the heart of the city of Salzburg. The impressive baroque architecture of the palace and the gorgeous garden will remind you of the song ‘Do Re Mi’.
A short city tour by bus takes you to Leopoldskroner Weiher Where you can see the rear side of the Von Trapp family house from the movie and the pond where the kids fell into in a scene from the movie.
Schloss Hellbrunn Is another location not to be missed. The history, the architecture, and the sound of music locations all together make it a special place. The famous gazebo from the song ‘Sixteen Going on Seventeen’ is located here and calls for a picture!
